Southpole Clothing
Southpole Clothing company was established by two brothers who used their urban style to come up with the clothing line. The two brothers, Kenny Khym and David who were from Korea started the clothing line in 1981 in New York which was supposed to cater for the urban clothing. The company’s clothes are easily recognizable due to their characteristic baggy fit and the logo which has been in the market for a long time.
The two brothers moved from Queens to Brooklyn after their land lord increased the rent and they straggled at first to cater for the overwhelming demand they received for the clothes. In 1991, they established a wholesale company by the name Wicked fashions which got a very good reception that necessitated the importation of products from Pakistan.
David who started the company and hired Kenny decided to change the company name to Southpole as a tribute to Korean explorers who reached the Southpole. Southpole Company has been able to withstand competition from other companies who offer similar styled clothes. The company has succeeded in withstanding competition by offering lower prices for its clothes than other brands making similar clothes.
The two brothers separated in 1996 when Kenny Khym left his brother and established his own clothing line which was inspired by the hip hop culture that was gaining ground at the time. However Kenny’s company was forced to sigh for bankruptcy in 2009 and many of the outlets have started to close shop.
Meanwhile the Southpole Company has been able to sustain the competition from clothes line like FUBU who make a similar clothing line. The Southpole company seams to be growing strong despite the competition and in 2005 they were able to post a $350 million profit from the sale of their products.
Southpole has managed to withstand competition from other brands that are always emerging but fall off on the way. Though competition is high, Southpole has been able to provide urban clothing of high quality at a low price and also have been keeping with the trend to produce new lines which are gaining popularity in the urban market.
The company’s headquarters according to its website are in New Jersey and it currently has 254 vendors there. Southpole has also been able to diversify its product line and now it is going beyond producing clothes to handbags and footwear which are also targeted for the urban market.
According to the latest figures from the Southpole Company, it does not seam to slow down and it is reinventing itself and coming up with more and better products for its customers. In 2008, Southpole Company collaborated with Brickfish advertising Company to launch an online competition for models that are to be used in their advertisement campaign in 2009.
Currently the Southpole Clothing company has established markets in the US, Asia and Europe which are performing very well. The company still remains a force to be reckoned with in the urban fashion where it has remained a big player in the market.
Give your thoughts on Southpole clothing and what type of brand you think it is here
Sharon,
It think that it maybe a little late for you to try and exchange the items for ones in better condition. If you do in fact have an issue with the craftmanship of the jeans and shorts, I suggest you contact the southpole headquarters. I have found a public source that will provide all of the information you need and the link is http://www.manta.com/c/mms2bgk/lot-29
I would just give them a call and explain the deal. The Southpole guys are all pretty cool and I have been pleased in my dealings with their customer service. But please don't take my word for it. As the consumer you need to know for yourself whether a company is going to stand by its products or not. Hope this helps.
I love south pole I personally have many hand bags of them. But I'am sure diappionted in the quality of the brand. One way or the other the paint on the purses tends to peel.

My son has worn south pole jeans, shirts, hoodies ect. since he was about 10. We buy his clothes at J.C. Penney. He is now 23 yr. old. The last six month his jeans and jean shorts have been tearing doen by the hip pockets and by the zipper. My question is where would he return them to. He loves them and does NOT want to have to find another brand of jeans. He is really disappointed in the jeans and jean shorts. Please let us know what to do. Sincerely, Sharon & Bill
